Can the Spurs win it all?
The Spurs aren't your average basketball club. They are a team that doesn't rely on Superstars, but on teamwork. They have had 50+ wins for thirteen consecutive seasons. So, the question stands, why don't people take the Spurs seriously? Is it because they are a small market team? Is it because they would rather pass the ball for an open three than have a highlight dunk? It doesn't matter if ESPN, or other sports analysts count out the Spurs, they are a huge threat to the championship. Not only do they have a roster filled with playoff experience, they have one of the best, if not the best, coache in the league. Their pinpoint passing cannot be stopped easily, and their core trio of Duncan/Parker/Ginobili aren't going to slow down. Regardless of the Heat or Pacers reaching the NBA finals, they better take the Spurs seriously. They are 4-0 in the finals, after all.
Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, and Manu Ginobili are playing at a very high level. With their supporting cast complimenting their playing styles, what can't they accomplish in the playoffs? If it wasn't for injuries around the end of the regular season, the Spurs could have potentially gotten 60+ wins, joining the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Miami heat. They were among the top teams in the NBA in assists, and that isn't very surprising. What statistic shows how much of a great team the San Antonio Spurs are is the fact that they are a team that has a top five offense, and a top five defense. A team that does it on both sides of a court is a very dangerous scenario for any team facing them.
So, I hope the team that is facing the Spurs in the NBA finals are ready. Because, this is a team that can potentially upset the defending champions, the Miami Heat.

SOLs and Finals Are On Their Way
So we're arriving on that time of the year when finals are just around
the corner and SOLs are already upon us. Summer and the end of the year are so
close yet so far away. Seniors are waiting with bated breath for the final
weeks until graduation then it's off into the big world of adulthood and
college. AP classes are basically over with only end of year projects and
finals on the horizon. So we're in for the final stretch, I know it's hard to
keep focus with summer so close at hand and turning in your last weeks of
homework is dull and seems unnecessary, but don't give in, your so close to the
end of the year. Yearbooks are out and about, the last scholarship deadlines
are arriving with vigor, and summer jobs are being plucked from the shelves
like Black Friday sales at Wal-Mart. But don’t despair, only a few more weeks
and then you’re on your way to a hot and muggy summer full of cicadas, family
vacations, 90-degree days, and pool parties in that new swimsuit you’ve been
just dying to try out. For you seniors, finish out the year with a bang, have
fun and enjoy the last remaining days of your adolescent teenage years before
you’re shipped off to whatever college you are attending for four more years of
homework and essays.

Severed Lives, Severed Ties
Abortion is one of the most
controversial and highly discussed issues in America. The debate about when a
person becomes a person has our country torn apart. Some people believe that
life begins at the moment of conception, while others believe that life does
not begin until later on in the gestation period of a fetus. However, everybody
was able to agree when it came to the trial of Philadelphia abortion provider,
Dr. Kermit Gosnell, who was found guilty of first degree murder on Monday, May
13. Dr. Gosnell killed babies by using scissors to cut their spinal cords. He
was convicted of three counts of first degree murder, which could result in the
death penalty for the 72 year old doctor.
In addition to the first degree
murder charges, Gosnell was accused in the death of a 41 year old woman,
Karnamaya Mongar, who died of an anesthetic overdose while she was undergoing a
second trimester abortion at Gosnell’s West Philadelphia clinic. The jury found
Dr. Kermit Gosnell guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the case of Mongar’s
death.
Dr. Kermit Gosnell was also found
guilty of 21 counts of abortion of 24 weeks or older unborn babies. In the
state of Pennsylvania, it is illegal to perform an abortion past 24 weeks,
unless if there is a threat to the mother’s health.
This high profile case was riddled
with emotions as pictures of the aborted babies with snipped spinal cords were
presented. The jury took their time
evaluating and going over all of the evidence that was presented throughout the
trial. Earlier on Monday, May 13, the jury said it was hung on two counts after
deliberating for two weeks. The judge instructed the jury to try and reach a
verdict on these two counts. After much deliberation, the jury convicted Dr. Gosnell
and a wave of emotion and relief overcame the prosecution as Assistant District
Attorney, Joanne Pescatore began to sob after the verdict was read.

Surprising
First Round
So far the NBA playoffs have been phenomenal and really
astonishing for many fans that thought the first round was going to be easy. But
for a couple of teams it was. For example for the west, it was the San Antonio
Spurs sweeping the Los Angeles Lakers. For the east, the Miami Heat showing no
slowing down after beating the Milwaukee bucks 4-0.
One surprising game
that really shocked every Brooklyn fan was when Chicago came out with a victory
to move on to the Semi-Finales. After Chicago lost their first game and won
their other games to take a 3-1 lead in the first round, the Brooklyn Nets came
and won two games to force it to go to a game seven. But it was the Chicago Bulls
who came out with the win without none of their top scores who is Luol Deng,
Kirk Hinrich, and of course Derrick Rose who haven’t played a single game this
season.
The Boston Celtics had New York Fans holding their Breaths
after beating the Knicks twice to make it go to a game six. But before all of
that the Knicks, who ended their season really terrific going 15-2 in their
last 17 games in the regular season, they took a 3-0 lead in the first round to
make New York and Boston fans think that it was going to be an easy series. But
the Celtics just wouldn’t give up so they forced a game six. That game six
would be a game that the New York Knicks will never forget. The reason I say
that is because of how close it was to go to a game seven. The Knicks had a 23-point
lead with about eight minutes left in the fourth quarter and out of nowhere the
Boston Celtics takes a 19-0 run to make it a four-point game and leaving the
Knicks scoreless for about five minutes. But the Knicks found a way to come out
with a win.
Now that the first round of the playoffs is over, the post
season is going to get more and tougher for some teams and maybe surprising for
some fans that think or know that one team is going to win but really that team
ends up losing.

Kids Prank Parents into Thinking They're Buying Drugs.
By: Sam
I love pranks. I love them whether it
goes to hurt the victim mentally or maybe even physically. But it is especially
awesome when it is done on parents because really, they have the weirdest and
funniest reactions. So that was why comedian
Nathan Fielder asked kids to send a fake drug text to their parents saying
"got 2 grams for $40" and say right after "Sorry ignore that
txt. Not for you" then tweet him the responses.
These are just some of the responses. Most of which are hilarious
but to normal kids, some are scary (angry parents can be a kid’s worse
nightmare). What are really funny are the different reactions some parents get
and how easy it is to just change the subject like how there is not cursing or
telling them that grams meant grammar books or grandmother (how is that even
close?) but to that parents for knowing the nicknames to some drugs, that is
funny. How they text is also hilarious because it is like they still have T9 on
their phones or just too angry to even reply. The insults are the best part
(excluding the curse words), ranging from “you goof” to basically summing it up
“SCREW YOU BRIAN” (classic Brian, am I right?). This is probably the best prank
I have seen done on parents because it shows you what your parents would do
(either picking you up from school or getting ready to force you to pee in a
cup). My absolutely favorite ones have to be the grammar books because let’s be
honest, none of us are that quick in making an excuse, and one that the parent
said “So help me god if you referring to drugs I will disown you.” This just
really shows how much parents care because let’s face it, we can never actually
hate them for being so…them. Even if it’s drastic.
The Devoted Dad by Simona Hentsa
Herron, the father of his 17 year old daughter Mariah,
watched her struggle to find the prom dress of her dreams. Mariah loves to hunt
and fish and be outdoors so she wanted a camouflage dress but looking online didn’t
help much, everything was just too expensive. So her dad decided to go to a
fabric store, find the material that his daughter wanted, and then find someone
to sew the dress for her. Mariah wanted a corseted back but the woman at the
fabric store said it would be too complicated to do. However, Herron had his
mind set on pleasing his daughter so he took the challenge himself and paid $97
for the fabric. A former military man who once sewed strips and hemmed his own
uniform was now going to attempt to make his daughter the prom dress of her
dreams. Herron turned his family room into his sewing station and his daughter
along with his wife watched nervously and anxiously for weeks. At times his
wife would be overwhelmed with pressure and ask him if he wanted to call a
professional but he refused. Six weeks later, Herron has created a strapless, black satin gown
made from Snow White Camouflage fabric with a white underlayer and covered with
black tulle. The top of the dress is lined with a thin black ruffle
and a black satin bow which is fastened to the back of the dress. The waist is
lined with shotgun shells and to pull the look together, Herron bought his
daughter Mariah brown and white boots. His overwhelmed wife and daughter were
proud that not only did he complete the dress on time, but it was everything
that Mariah wanted as well as it being affordable! Mariah was so excited and
proud that she now has now asked him to make her future wedding dress. Herron felt honored with her request but
replied with “We’ll see”. Not only will Mariah have the memories of
experiencing prom but most importantly it will be a sentimental moment in her
life knowing that her dad did whatever he could to make her happy, in other
words, making the prom dress of her dreams!
