The Flu is Upon Us Once Again

Beware the Flu. With winter already blowing in its blustery winds, the illness rate is on the rise. Be cautious, sickness is in the air once again. No one wants to get sick. For both those who have already had the flu or have yet to catch it here are some precautions that you can take:

  • Always wash your hands after using the restrooms, before and after eating and whenever coming into contact with people (you never know who might have the flu or a cold).
  • If you sneeze, sneeze into the crook of your arm or your shoulder not into your hands.
  • Coughing is the same as sneezing, cough into your arm not your hands.
  • If you haven't already, get a flu shot to help fight off the flu (but remember, the flue vaccine does not prevent the flu, it just helps you fight it off and reduces some of the more severe symptoms).
  • When at home, clean off surfaces that people come into contact with often. Using a clean-wipe, thoroughly wipe all tables, counter-tops, house phones, doorknobs, lamps and any other common household surface.
  • If you feel sick or have flu-like symptoms, stay home. Do not come to school if you think you might have the flu, if you do you will just be spreading the virus around and infecting everyone you come into contact with.
Be careful, the flu is no laughing matter. The flu kills dozens every year and this year is no exception. If you are cautious and follow the precautions above you will be better prepared for the flu and be able to enjoy the winter season more comfortably.
